Voices from Restaurant Workers

  • Rev Wayne Chen

In the early 90s, while working at a restaurant, I took an English class at RMI, which had a profound impact on my life. Soon I began attending worship meetings and fellowships and eventually converted Jesus. RMI became my spiritual home, providing foundational training for my faith and teaching me how to share the gospel with others. I participated in RMI short-term mission trips, which fueled my desire to serve as a missionary.

In 1993, I felt called to pursue missionary training at Bible College. After graduation, I became a pastor at RMI for four years, which prepared me for overseas missionary work. In early 2001, I joined Overseas Missionary Fellowship and was sent to Taiwan to spread the gospel. Despite being away, I remained connected to RMI and continued to participate in its ministry whenever I was back in Sydney.

I owe everything to God and to RMI, which helped me discover my true calling and nurtured me in my faith. May all glory be given to God for the great things He has done through RMI.

  • Ming Yuan Liao (Dim Sim Chef/ RMI Co-worker)

RMI is my spiritual home where I discovered my faith and grew in my relationship with God. Serving there has been life-changing, giving me purpose and fulfillment. I'm grateful for the unwavering support of my RMI family and the joy of working alongside fellow believers to share God's message. Even in difficult times, I feel God's peace and presence, knowing I'm serving His purpose. I'm thankful for the community at RMI who have built me up and led me to serve God wholeheartedly.

  • Pui Cheung Tam BBQ Chef

Meet a 76-year-old kitchen veteran who struggled with a sense of family and negative habits despite working since age 17. Introduced to RMI by a Christian trade master, I became a believer after a decade of interaction with RMI. Two years ago, my wife and I began attending worship and Bible study, I found newfound peace and stability through the teachings of the Bible. Overcoming most negative habits, my life is a testament to the transformative power of Jesus.

  • Tina Huang (Dim Sim Attendant)

Time flies, and it has been 20 years since I first joined the fellowship at RMI. I got to know RMI through their English classes, where I had the opportunity to discuss faith with my teacher. After many discussions, I finally accepted Jesus Christ as my Savior. It's the greatest blessing in my life, and I have received indescribable joy and peace. I haven't stopped attending RMI gathering, where sermons and Bible study help me understand the Scriptures and strengthen my faith. Thanks to God's comforting words, I have been able to overcome various difficulties in my life and work.

  • May Lin (Kitchen Staff)

Due to work obligations, I couldn't attend church on Sundays, but a friend introduced me to RMI. In there we study the Bible together, support and pray for each other through difficult times. In this big family, I felt love and hope. I am grateful for my fellow group members' prayers and help, which allowed me to experience how we can overcome great difficulties with the Lord's help. I will continue to follow the Lord closely and live according to God's word.
